This 1,000-vatu note commemorates the 40th anniversary of Vanuatu's independence, overprinted on B210 with a 1980 • 2020 / 40 / INDEPENDENCE inscription and the special prefix VU. Introduced on 23 July 2020; the first 1,000 notes were sold as numismatic products in folders for 2,000 vatu each.

The underlying design shows a conch shell at left alongside a coastal waterway; the coat of arms — a Melanesian chief in traditional dress standing and holding a spear — appears at center, with a map of the Vanuatu island chain to its right. Text appears in English and French.
